There was so much Dems did today, from all the Town Halls across the country to the incredible work of the DNC, and I think I saw maybe 10% of it. So if you saw a story today from the Dems that you don’t see here, please put it in the comments!
Senate Finance Committee Dems
Today the Dems on the Sen Finance Committee held a press conference on the Republican budget bill that would destroy Medicaid, among other things.
Everyone wants press conferences, and I know they mean something engaging, but this is what a press conference is, you can find the engaging equivalents all over social media.
I will say though, Sen Raphael Warnock was one of the speakers, and he can never have a bad speech, so if you don’t want to watch the whole thing (though it’s quite energetic in 2x,) I recommend at least watching his section.
Other speakers include Tammy Baldwin (WI), Peter Welch (VT), Catherine Cortez Masto (NV), Patty Murray (WA), Maggie Hassan (NH), and Ron Wyden (OR)
Let’s make this viral!
Rep Mark Pocan (WI-02)
On Feb 6, Mark Pocan released the first episode of his new podcast “With Liberty and Justice for All”
The third episode came out today, and it’s an interview with one of our all time favorite congressmen, Rep Jamie Raskin (MD-8).
I love how Raskin has been everywhere this week talking about our fight against fascism. I’m so glad that includes a conversation with a fellow Rep.
It’s only 40 minutes, you can find it on Spotify, or Apple music, (in the widget below.) If you’re on a laptop, you don’t have to have an account to use Apple.
DNC Chair Ken Martin
If you think he’s doing nothing, you haven’t been paying attention.
He has been everywhere, which makes sense, because his tour is called “Organize Everywhere”
He was on PoliticsGirl’s podcast yesterday, one of his most energized yet!
He also spoke with Pittsburgh steel workers this week. Most steelworkers are not Democrats. This is not speaking to the base, this is speaking to the labor movement about what they are and will be going through thanks to DT.
And, along with Vice Chair Malcolm Kenyatta, he did some door-to-door Get Out The Vote for Dan Goughnour who is running for Pennsylvania State HD 35. A blue seat that we cannot lose or else we lose the State House. The election is on March 25.
So yes, the DNC is absolutely “doing something.”
Sen Tina Smith (MN)
Blue Sky has a video limit of 60 seconds. I certainly hope that changes soon, and so does Sen Tina Smith. But if that wasn’t the case, we wouldn’t have gotten this incredible video. It’s very short, but it shows what it’s like behind the scenes of her video posts.
I really like this video because we need this kind of transparency and humanity from all our Representatives and Senators. We’re all collectively having a hard time and knowing that you’re elected official is as affected as you are, helps.
Rep Jasmine Crockett (TX-30)
And finally, for today, Rep Crockett has joined the House Dem Rapid Response Task Force that you might remember Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced nine days ago.
She announced that she joined with a phenomenal video about the Tanya Chutkin decision that’s being misrepresented by the media.
There are some incredible lawyers who have posted all over social media breaking this down as well, but she’s the first Rep to do it, and it sounds like she’s going to be the Comms for this Task Force. I love that, but I also hope to see Raskin taking that role sometimes too.
This isn’t even a small sliver of what took place today, but it is all I was able to include without getting overwhelmed.
As I said at the top, please include any other stories you know about that I missed, because I know I missed so many.
Our voice is our superpower, but only when we use them!
