Today’s post is focused on outreach. These are six stories of Dems who are really being smart with how they’re talking to and supporting their constituents.
Now, remember, that doesn’t mean they’re going viral. We play a huge role in making that happen, so if you like what someone is doing, make sure to share it on your socials or with people in your circle.
Rep Jamie Raskin (MD-08)
He held an emergency webinar on DT and EM’s attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community. I love how quickly he was able to pull this together. Especially getting these amazing speakers on such short notice.
he had Arli Christian from the ACLU, Lee Blinder from Trans Maryland and Dr. Amena Johnson, Montgomery County’s first LGBTQ+ liaison.
This is his third emergency webinar. The first two being on immigration and federal workers. I think it’s safe to say, whenever something outlandish happens be on the look out for Rep Raskin to have a webinar discussion the implications.
Democratic Women’s Caucus
They have a podcast! It’s called “Madam Congress” and they released the first five episodes yesterday.
This first episode is a chat between Chair Teresa Leger Fernández and Chair Emerita Lois Frankel.
Each episode is about 20-30 minutes, which I think is just perfect for people’s attention span, and I think this will be an incredible podcast that we need now more than ever!
You can find it on Spotify and Apple, but I’m sure, if we make enough noise, they’ll put it on YouTube as well, and hopefully make socials for the podcast itself.
Sen Sheldon Whitehouse (RI)
A lot of electeds are posting the same articles, which is fine, but it’s hard to care when they’re just letting us know how bad things are without doing anything to stand out. On the House side they’re pretty good with not focusing on respectability, but less Senators are there yet.
Not Rep Whitehouse. Anytime he refers to EM, he calls him and his merry gang of fascists “musk-rats” and it reminds me of Gov Tim Walz’s “weird” moniker for their bs, and I really like that and think it’s effective.
Rep Sara Jacobs (CA-51)
She was recently on Pod Save the World, on their “[DT’s'] Insane Plan to Own Gaza” episode. She also posted a clip on YouTube, and I think it’s a great clip clearly showing exactly what Republicans are unwilling to support, which, is still a bit shocking.
Rep Jill Tokuda (HI-02)
She posted her version of “what I did this week” but what I love the most about it is that she used headlines, so it feels like tangible actions rather than just a list of bullet points. As you know, I think sourcing your information is one of the most important things in this day and age, and she does just that, and not only that, but she uses local media to do so. Very effective way of posting this very important series.
And finally
Rep Melanie Stansbury (NM-01)
As I mentioned earlier, many electeds are posting bad news, but not much about what’s being done to stop it, so I wanted to highlight this post where Rep Stansbury does the opposite. She posts about the mass-terminations, but also that there is a class action lawsuit, so it’s bad news with an action, which is the best way to post about anything.
So those are today’s fighters.
Always remember that making noise and going viral with accurate information is one of our most powerful ways of fighting back!
